I know this type of question is asked alot, but what have you done to make your hair grow longer (braiding, surging, etc) and how long did it take you to get where you're at? Thanks

1) Protective Style
--> I wear cornrows/braids one or two months at a time.
This is great because it keeps my hair away from the
heat and other harmful elements to hair. This is what
let me actually see and keep the growth that I was
receiving.

2) Organic Root Stimulator Carrot Oil, ORS Shampoo,
Infusium 23 Original, CON Professional, Aubrey Organics
GPB, Natural and essential oils, EQP Mango Butter,
African Pride Braid Spray, etc.
--> These are all of my staple products that I've been
using for over a year now.

3) Water! Water! Water!
--> After I started drinking water every day not only did I
see improvements in my hair but also by skin and
overall health.

4) Frequent Washing/Conditioner Washing
--> I try to do this 3-5 times a week and it increases my
growth and keeps my braids moisturized.

Currently I am at 9 inches average, but I say I gain 1/2 inch to an inch a month.

No heat, healthy diet, and plenty of moisture.

1) daily surging aids a lot with growth
2) using silica softens my new growth and allows me to wait longer between touch ups
3) gentle combing
4) constant moisture

1. eat a lot of protein
2. drink plenty of water
3. surge
4. biotin
5. sew-ins as a protective style
6. detangle in the shower before rinsing conditioner out

When I joined this forum, I started washing my hair more, moisturizing my hair more, drinking more water, taking more vitamins, exercising, no trim challenge, and using more products. I did do the egg challenge for a week but have slacked on eating eggs. I started using Surge Plus 14 in May and I have slacked on using it.
Now, I'm trying the stretching out relaxer challenge and while doing so, I'm wearing a protective style which finally worked for me (two french-like braids). I have been 6 weeks without a relaxer. I have also started doing co-washes. When my hair has been relaxed, I wear rollersets.
From October 2003 (when I got a layered cut) to NOW, my hair went from mid-neck length back to shoulder-length. I did do a trim back in May because I couldnt stand the uneveness of my hair. But now, Im cutting no more until I reach bra-strap length (which I hope I get by mid-2005 or sooner!)

I wash my hair twice a week. I do not use cheap products, I use professional products such KeraCare, Mizani ect.. These products are made specifically for black hair and if you have dandruff like I do then you definately need to use products that will not dry your hair out. I moisturize my hair every two days, wear protective styles and I never use heat.

Last week I relaxed my hair after stretching my relaxer out for 4 months. It helped me out a lot not using too many chemicals in my hair ( the less you use the better) and not using heat. My hair grew four inches during those four months and my hair is now just gazing my bra strap. Once I am at the bra strap length then I will no longer try to grow my hair any longer. Also, I had my hair professional done last week, my ends only needed a dusting. However, I was told not to stretch my relaxer out again that long b/c I had a lot of new growth and my stylist told me that my hair grows an inch a month anyway.

I wash wkly; handle my hair with care both wet and dry; keep my ends healthy via trims and try to limit heat. I use a ceramic iron instead of a regular electric one and then .... I leave it alone!!!

Imagine yourself with long hair (if that's your goal); construct a healthy hair care regimen that makes SENSE and your hair responds to (feels soft, looks shiny, etc.) and then leave your hair alone. Don't fuss or over-examine it. Just let it be. It will grow and be healthy.
