unmanipulated hair in its ABSOLUTE natural condition

YOU KNOW WHAT's STRANGE?
I have never EVER seen a woman wear her natural hair in its ABSOLUTE natural condition. I'm not talking wash n goes, or twist outs. just your regular hair (combed/uncombed), not doing anything to it's texture or form etc and completely unmanipulated (no product either). I wear my hair like this at home (because it's the only way I don't get a headache) but if I were to set foot outside the door looking like this well..:look: let's just say I may convey the message that I belong in a mental institution. I tried google, but it comes up only with hair that has in some way been manipulated into a particular style.

does anyone wear their hair like this outside?

No, I would not go outside knowing my hair is looking crazy lol. If my hair wasn't so frizzy I might try it though.

wearing my hair unmanipulated means I am welcoming my curls to have an orgy with each other which results into tangles. I couldn't leave it unmanipulated even if I wanted to.

No thanks. I don't think I'd look crazy? But I know my hair would be super tangled afterwards. I never wear my hair unmanipulated, in or out of the house.

When my hair was really short, yeah. I went out like that all the time. Longer than 2" and it's a disaster waiting to happen :nono:

I did a wash 'n go a few times when I was natural and ended up regretting it.. I had 90% shrinkage and those tiny coils love them some SSKs when left to their own devices. It was also really difficult for me to stretch my hair out again after it shrank to its maximum.

As far as aesthetics my shrunken hair was fairly uniform so it was basically a tight coily fro, kind of blah but certainly not unsightly or unprofessional.

No I wouldn't. I don't even know what my hair looks like in its unmanipulated state. Putting my hair in a puff when its wet is dangerous and that is as close to danger that I want to get.

Once in high school and then again in college I saw two black women who wore their hair in its natural state. It was wash and unmanipulated. They seemed totally comfortable with themselves. The girl in highschool, had her hair done twice during 1 summer. It last for maybe 24 to 48 hours then it was back. Hair just wasn't her thing

ok, i understand the practical reason for not doing this,

but i'm so annoyed at the other reason, as confirmed by grownwomanaz, lamaria211, pookaloo83. Why should we not be able to walk down the street with our hair in its natural condition?

I've seen it, and it ain't pretty! A woman I see regularly at H-Mart does nothing to her hair and it's now a big nasty over grown slug looking dreadlock.

Everybody grooms their hair. My hair IS in its natural condition. But groomed. Matted hair is not hot for me or these streets. :nono:

no manter26, just your natural hair without washing it/putting product into it/flat ironing it/twist outs/etc

Never seen it, I know why. But I just wish I could, without getting stares from everyone and everybody

There's nothing keeping you from it. But it doesn't matter what group you are from, most people don't do it because after a while it just looks unappealing. There are very few people of any group that wash their hair and do absolutely nothing to it.

Don't think there is anything to be annoyed at.

I'm just thinking I did not chose my hair, it's colour or it's texture etc. It grew out of my scalp in this way. It is natural, why should I have to manipulate it, to prevent negative perceptions from others? I mean I would never do it, but it secretly bothers me

I'm so confused.... You mean you never see people who don't wash their hair? What are you expecting to see?

I believe the same can be said for Type 1 - 3 hair types. There is no getting around having to do something to your hair before you leave the house. Even those with 1" - 2" of hair "do something" to their hair before leaving the house. Hence manipulation is inevitable.

im relaxed but i know my hair so even if i was natural i would need to put something in my hair so it wont break off. i dont put products in my hair for show, i put it in there because my hair needs it.

I don't know why it bothers you. Do you know of any race besides blacks that doesn't manipulate their hair?? I thought everyone did.

manter26, she is speaking of people who wash their hair and do NOTHING else to it. They don't put product in it. They don't pull it up. They don't detangle it. They don't comb it. Your WNG probably doesn't count.

I'm sure their are plenty of homeless people and hippies who just let it be. No water, no combs, no styling, no nothing.

Not really sure why you are bothered by it. There are things that are perfectly natural that we are socialized out of. Things that are cute on children we accept but not with adults. You an ignore social norms. It's true though you will be stared at if you don't groom your hair or your clothes. And many other things from a long list.

Well, I finger detangle, cowash- with conditioner, rinse then let it be. It dries loose and I might wear a puff a few days later. If that's not doing nothing, I don't know what is. I don't want natty dreads, so I wash my hair.

You shouldn't have to do anything that you don't want to do. If you are happy with your hair win no manipulation then you should wear it that way. I wear my hair according to how I like it and what is best for the health of my hair.

Naw, I am sure the guy I pass everyday, I call him Smokey, spits on his hand and finger combs his 5 hairs everyday without fail.

Nothing legal, but like you said it is unappealing and will be perceived negatively, hence why many women may not do it. I don't actually mean this to be a 'regimen', as in totally abandoning manipulation/products etc. I'm just saying I have never seen this, and to tell you the truth I wouldn't dare do it myself either

But some people may not like to groom their hair, some women may like to go out with their natural hair, without receiving negative reactions.

I see it all the time; usually the person has short hair. They literally wash and go. I don't see it as unkempt or unappealing. :perplexed

OP, you don't want to pat it, or shape it, or anything? Depending on your length, you may not get very many stares with your unmanipulated hair. I say do what you want to do and don't worry about what other people think.
