After they have done your hair, you pay and never come back(lets say you were a regular). Do they think about us when we never come back? Do they wonder if they did something wrong or do they just assume we were being cheap?

I know that I was sick of ending up with dime sized and quarter sized bald patches after getting my hair relaxed. I was also tired of her not cutting my hair right, it would look good until a day or so later then I would see it was uneven or whatever. So I never went back. My mom still goes to her and from time to time the stylist will ask how I am doing. I wonder if she knows that I was tired of all the BS that usually goes along with getting your hair done (the waiting, the bad trims, the expense, etc).

Do stylists think about us when we never make another appointment?

If they are doing a poor job with your hair then they probably are not thinking about you if you don't come back. Especially those that know they are doing a piss poor job at doing your hair and just don't care.

They really don't give a damn. Its all about the cash they got off you at the time you were there.

There are too many black women willing to walk away with damaged hair for the sake of a hairstyle.....

....too many black women whom don't know the first thing about hair care to even know what is happening to them is wrong or they just think its the norm.....

.....too many black women whom hate what God gave them and are willing to do whatever it takes to acheive straight hair - even if its the last strand on their head!

I'm wondering why we as black women continue to accept ghetto hairdressing skills and surroundings yet white women go to nice, clean, respectable establishments with certificates on the wall and where all the staff smile at you and offer you a cup of tea........

I've finished my vent :look:

They don't know always if they knew you were not happy then they would work with you to resolve the problem bald spots may be do to the wrong kind of perm chemical, if you dont tell them and let them know what happened then they think you found a cheaper way to get your hair done. We have too many people out there that don't talk with their hairdressers, the otherside of the issue is too many clients don't want to deal with hair so you end up just a $$$$. you don't ask questions they don't know you care.

I know this one lady probably didn't know tha i HATED her doing my hair. She only did my hair once...and when she did my hair I asked for a nice updo suitable for my age. I was 17 but she gave me those devil horns in the front (like 5 going across) and a french roll. I looked like a clown...and she used a whole tub of gel it seemed like. I told ehr I loved it, paid her, and never went back... I just dun have the courage to speak my mind

I do think some stylists want you to stay with short hair. For instance I tell all my stylists tah I want to grow my hair out. :kiss3:THE FIRST THING THEY DO IS CLIP MY ENDS....excuse me not clip CUT my ends off. :burning:Cutting off all my growth right there. Then they don't condition long enough, and don't listen to me when I tell them what's been going on with my hair. They feel to me if you have horrible hair that untamely you will continue going to them. That's why I'm laying low on teh stylists for awhile...jsut dun tell my stylist...she thinks I love her...

Yes, I do think they know when they have done wrong...But do They Care not most of the time. As long my money isn't a penny short they don't have nothing to worrry about.:nono: Usually when I know my hair is a mess or not what I asked for they act like they don't want to finish the job. But that don't stop women from going back to them(included myself once ago:wallbash:).

When I started wearing weaves (i wore them for a year). I ran into a stylist that I has been to 5 times, and she made the comment "I had wondered if i did something to offend you". She seemed to really care. :look:I assured her that I was just giving my hair a break by wearing the sewin.

So- I guess some do. Some dont. Just like with anything else.

I think some know and care because like any profession, mishaps occur. I have not had one to admit when they effed up though. Probably human nature kicking in.

Oh I think they know. Last June I went to a salon to get a touch up -- I would have done it myself, but I had 3 tracks sewn in (I'd never had extensions before) that I was afraid to remove myself for fear of damage. So..I go and she was being nice, but I couldn't shake the feeling that she didn't like me. Then she says " You know what -- you remind me of a black barbie" Which I was unsure of how to interprete -- next thing you know she'd chopped my below shoulder length hair to neck length. I had to fight with every fiber in my being not to lose it - so I paid, thanked her quietly and left. I've never gone back and I never will -- it's just strengthened my resolve to remain a DIYer for life!

My former stylist didn't know that she wronged me, but she did think about me. Let me rephrase that - she thought about my money. :dollar::dollar::dollar:

I had a standing appointment every other Saturday for years. She was nice to me for years until I started asking her to trim less hair less often.

The last time I went to her was in March '07. I called her at the beginning of April to cancel the next appointment and all future appointments. After we hung up she called me back like 2 minutes later. I just let it ring. She left a message saying that she had a question for me. Then she called back again 5 minutes later and I answered. She asked me if I was embarrassed that she had shown my rollerset to another stylist and she was wondering if she had said something wrong. I told her no to get her off the phone.

She called me again more than a month later to ask me why I'm not coming back! That call was at 7:55 a.m. on a Friday. :angry2: I was in bed awake and I had not gotten up for work yet. The phone rang (she should have called my cell like she did before). My grandmother answered it and she told me the phone was for me.

When I got out of bed and picked up the phone she asked me if saving money was the real reason that I wasn't coming in anymore. I was surprised, unprepared, and not fully awake and alert so I just told her yes. :ohwell: She was going on about how I still went to her when I came home for breaks during college, I went to her for years, she was concerned about why I don't want to come in anymore, she misses me, etc......:violin: :crying3::cry2::cry3::cry: :crybaby:

I told her, like I told her before, that I want to save money so I'll do my own hair. I didn't feel like being yelled at, scolded, and patronized over the phone like she did when I was in the salon. I just wanted the call to end.

The real reason I stopped going is that I was tired of her trying to argue with me, :arguing: pressuring me to get trims when I didn't want to. I was paying her for a service and she didn't respect me. The disrespect started when I had started taking better care of my ends and I saw a huge decrease in splits. At touch-ups when I started telling her "I don't want a trim this time" she became very condescending and angry, even scolding me and yelling at me a couple of times like I was a bad child. :naughty:  Sometimes she would be nice.

I couldn't take her Jekyll & Hyde personality. Even after I told her that I was taking better care of my ends she just didn't care. When I told her that I don't want my hair to stay the same length she yelled "Some hair just doesn't get any longer!" Maybe that would have made some sense if my hair was at least MBL, but she wouldn't even give it a chance to get to APL. So how would she know how long my hair could get?

Okay, that's the end of my rant. :look:

Oh my goodness!! My mom and I were just talking about this today. We talk about that :censored: stylist we had every now and then to this day. We both felt obligated to go her since her grandmother/mother did our hair for years (she's no longer with us), and we had known her for a very long time. We were just close, and it was hard breaking way. After she burnt my mother hair several times while pressing and making a quarter-sized bald spot, we were quick to drop her, though. She pisses us off to this day! We are definitely mad at ourselves. It wasn't until after she made my bald spot that we left.

I think she knew she did us wrong. She had to see that BIG BALD SPOT while doing my straw set. We called after we saw it and told her about it, and she was at a party. She was so nonchalant about the situation. She asked "Are you sure you didn't do it?" and was laughing in the background. Her own daughter saw the severity.

Her wedding was a week after we spoke to her. We chose not to go. It was best, because I don't know what my mother would have done.

I don't think she cared. She cared about the money.

Wow :look:
All of this was a bit much. She was off the hook huh? I think it's good you let that relationship go

She asked if YOU made the bald spot huh? My stylist told me it was because i was stressed. Ummm, i've dealt with more stress over the last couple years than i did when dealing with her and her perming rituals and i've yet to see any bald spots.

:nono: yelled at you in the shop?

I know she was pissed when she saw your gorgeous locks. Revenge is a dish best served cold :yep:

H&!! yeah they know!! Half the time they are doing it knowingly. They are either hating on your pretty hair, are lazy and don't want your hair to grow any longer for fear of extra work, or have made a mistake and aren't willing to admit it. They can see your hair from their vantage point better than you can. There is no way they can miss the foul-ups they make. They are usually in a salon with other people and see the difference between good and bad. I'll bet that sometimes other stylists chastise them and they all have a good laugh together. Sometimes they are so catty and unprofessional.

*Disclaimer: Of course this isn't true for all stylists. I still go to mine for TU's (so far) and am mostly satisfied. She is very professional.

i think they know the last braids i wore i told m y stylist i wanted to braid till the end cus i want to protect my ends she complained my hair was too long and thick for those kinda braids so when i said i could go elsewhere thats when she said ok take a seat, a few days later when i was back at university i noticed she hadnt braided till the end and my ends were sticking out (it was the braid til the end of your hair and leave the rest of the extension out kinda hairstyle) i was so mad :wallbash: i paid £90 for that mess!!annd now i have split ends in the fron part and pback parts of may hair she KNEW what she was doiing

Okay, that's the end of my rant. :look:

I believe some hairstylists are of afraid of longer hair because they really don't know what to do with it or just plain don't feel like doing it. Most of their clients have shoulder length or shorter hair. When I was younger with at least MBL hair and my moms would take me to the shop, I remember seeing the worried looks on the stylists faces. You could practically read in their eyes "I hope she doesn't sit in my chair".

But the yelling? Totally not cool. She was being defensive about something. You are probably much better off without her hands in your hair.

Do stylists think about us when we never make another appointment?

Sometimes they make an honest mistake. Like for instance my friend got her hair singed with a crimping iron in the front once. The stylist was trying to get her hair to blend with the wet n wavy weave and singed it almost to the root. My friend didn't see it until she got home and we were getting dressed to go out. She could have at least told her though. :ohwell:

And some stylists do things the wrong way (or their way ) on purpose. They know they did wrong. For instance, my mom and I were going to a stylist like that a few years ago. She was actually my aunts stylist. She cut my mothers hair all up when she asked for layers and my mom didn't really see it until she got home. It was late and she told her just to pin curl the hair when she took the rollers out instead of combing it out. My mom was upset and never went back. I went a few more times after that and she always asked about my mom. And she made a comment about my mom must didn't like her anymore or was mad at her or something. I think she cut her hair like that on purpose because when she did it, the shampoo girl asked her something like "Oh so is that how you cut layers?" or "I didn't know you cut layers like that". And the woman responded and said "No. This is how I cut MY layers." She cut a lot off and it was supposed to be long layers.

And my mom wasn't the only client who complained about that. She also pulled the relaxer all the way through your hair the first time you came to her to get it all smoothed/straightened out like a corrective. I mean if you needed one, then that's fine. But how about you ask and not just be doing reckless stuff to people's hair? The first time I saw her do it to somebody's head I was like :perplexed. But she had already got me. And she never did it again after that. My hair did grow when I was going to her. I saw a lot of improvement. I initially went because of breakage. But once I stopped going (once I got past the 8 week relaxer mark) it started snapping and breaking like crazy. My mom's new hairdresser said it was because of that particular relaxer. She said she didn't like that relaxer for that very reason.

TOTALLY uncalled for...I think she was jealous. (How could she not be, youre beautiful by the way:yep:) That is so un professional and retarded

First and foremost, ALL STYLIST ARE NOT BAD!! Many are fresh out of school and did not learn but the basics their and I do mean the very basics. They learn the rest when they get in an actually salon and start working around other stylist. Sometimes they learn positive practices and professional procedures and sometimes they learn horrible things. Some stylist are set in their ways and are not willing to listen to their clients. That is why you should always ask for a free consulation. If they don't offer one, then RUN AWAY AS FAST AS YOU CAN!!!!!

You have to tell the stylist if they have wronged you. Sometimes they really and honestly don't know and would like to be given the chance to correct the problem. Then you have the money grabbers. They look at you as a dollar sign as soon as you walk through the salon door. Sometimes it is hard to tell them apart because they both can be mixed in the same salon. You just have to be selective and ask your stylist alot of questions. It's your hair. It is the stylist job to make recommendations and it is your job as a client to receive or ignore the recommendation. Go with your first gut instinct. If it tells you NOOOOO!!!!, then listen to it and head for the hills.:perplexed

Also, many clients, not saying anyone on here, don't listen to stylist when they do make a recommendation and only come to the stylist once in a blue moon when their hair is damaged and want the stylist to create a miracle and won't take care of their hair at home.:nono: So stylist think many clients don't care and that is when many will look at you as a $$$.

So to be soo long, but I am a stylist and I try to listen to my clients. Trust me, when I started out, I made mistakes and I learned from them too. With the information that I have learned from being on hear and other sites, I have adjusted my thinking.

But, NOT ALL STYLIST ARE BAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :lachen:
