I have known quite a few actually. One lady I had no idea until she mentioned she was going to go get a touch up and I thought she was talking about hair dye.

I have seen whites with 3C hair but not 4a. They usually hate it and get it straightened. I knew a white girl in junior high who had dense, tiny, 3C riglets, and used to iron her hair on an ironing board and never went swimming!

I have seen some Indians (from India) with very coarse, kinky hair in the Indian grocery stores. A lot of them are a very dark shade of chocolate, too. Makes you wonder about race/skin color and what it all really means...

Yes. In high school I knew a blond, blue-eyed Russian girl with 4b hair. I'm a 4a and I noticed that she always wore her hair in a bun like I did, and that her hair was more poofy and dry at the roots than my own. I also remember Joy Behar from the View saying that she never had a decent hairdo growing up because she didn't want to admit to herself that needed to "go down to harlem" where someone would know what to do with her hair. She said as a teen she finally started to go, and her hair finally looked good.

If you go to borough park Brooklyn, you will see plenty of othodox jewish girls with 4a even 4B hair. I had an Italian Math teacher who had a full blown afro ( well Italy is close to africa so that also explains it)

Yep...I've seen jewish, scilian (sp) and italian women with 4a/4b hair too. Not just Borough Park,but all over NY and in FL.
If people would stop debating the fact that man originated in Africa and branched out all over the world. (yes he did). We are all linked, related in som way shape or form.

When I was in school there was a white lady that was in my class that have some of the nappiest hair in the world. Her 4y hair was was a heck-of-a lot nappier than mine. It frightened me!!! I have 4w hair. I'm in a hair typing category all of my own.

All the time. In the 70's there were alot of guys with self described "jew fro's", and their sisters...whew....

My mother went to a salon for over 30 years that specialized in perming white womens hair straight - it served mostly Jewish clientele. I believe they made their own formula, and she woudl go there b/c they would get her hair bone straight. I mostly remember the place stank and that in later years they started getting more white Hispanics...

Well, I remember back in elementary school I used to be a kindergarten assistant and there was this little girl blonde hair and blue eyes, she was Italian or Greek, pretty sure she was italian though with these perfect 3c curls. They did not fall AT ALL, they were very tight and ringletty but not frizzy so I don't think she relaxed them or anything, it seems as if the mother had a good handle on things .

I've seen quite a few in Israel. Only one in the US and that was years ago when I was in middle school. I knew a white girl who had 4a hair and she would wash it, set it on huge rollers and sit under the dryer to "tame" it, as she put it.

Yes, I went to high school with one who had blonde 4a/4b hair (she had blue eyes, also). For most of high school, she wore it back in a pony tail all the time. Our senior year, she would blow dry her hair and straightened it using a curling iron (we all asked about her method. lol). It looked frizzy almost all the time. A few black girls asked her why her hair was like that. We were all shocked to hear her say it was because she has Native American in her family erplexed. Nobody confronted her about that explanation, but we were all like "Yeah, right!". We all thought that she or one of her parents (we never saw them) were trying to pass for white, or she was Jewish (none of the white people in the area that I went to high school in ever claimed this as their heritage).

I've heard of Asian salons specializing in making straight, silky hair into afro textured hair using chemicals and teeny-tiny rollers. I think that there was a thread on here a year or two about it, also.
