Teacher cuts off first grader's braid, charged with disorderly conduct

The teacher SHOULD be fired. Hell, she could have violated the child's religious views and beliefs. There are many cultures and religions that don't smile at the cutting of hair. If I was her mother, she would have also been sued in civil court. I would have to check myself first, because first instinct would be to grab her A** by the hair and cut a few locks off haphazardly. Then, I woulda said, "Now what you gonna run home and tell your husband?" People get on my damn nerves acting like they can control another at whim.

Dear Father God,

When I have children, please God do not let anything like this ever happen. You know my heart Lawd....you know that your child will go SLAM OFF, if somebody did something like this to my baby.

Amen.

I second this prayer. :yep:

Oh heck no! I hope this teacher gets more then just a fine. Hmmph, the school board would be sick of me. I swear they would be seeing my face & voice in their dreams. I would find every avenue to make my concerns heard. I can't believe that other parents who have children that attend this school aren't outraged.

wow, just WOW :nono: If that was my child I would go after that teacher with some hair shears and cut her ish off. or I would make it my mission in life to get her excommunicated from her field. What that teacher did was a felonious act of ASSAULT on a 7 year old and I would want her to be prosecuted. Not only did she assault the child, she had the nerve to call her to the front of the class and do it in front of everyone both humiliating her and insulting her mother after the fact. Oooh wee, I would catch a case for sure if that was my baby :nono: that little girl has such pretty hair too

umm she has to go. even if it wasn't my child who's hair got cut, i would not want that teacher in the school. whats gonna happen next time she gets mad? what is she gonna do to the next child that annoys her? she got ta go. ♥

What further amazes me in this situation is that the child acted with more maturity and self control than the teacher in that after being assaulted and humiliated (which would have been frustrating for her) she did not retaliate but waited to speak with a responsible adult, namely her parents!

The video did not go into what else the teacher did to control the little girl, but I am willing to assume it is very little.

As a little kid, it is expected that she will misbehave at times, whether mindlessly or on purpose. At worst, it is expected she will misbehave just to see what she can get away with. It is never an excuse to make other kids laugh at her or to violate her personal space like that. If you want to be an educator, you have to know really well which age bracket you best work with and the problems that come with it.

Usually I disagree with the average reaction, but this time I do agree. That her emotions took over that much over a girl playing with her hair is a serious sign to me. What happens when a kid is misbehaving on purpose? What happens with a problem child, or a child with undiagnosed ADD/ADHD or a high-functioning autistic?

I learned in junior high that bad teachers are promoted so they still work in the school system but do not have to work with kids. Sounds like this woman is "up for promotion".

If the teacher can get frustrated to the point of getting a scissors and cutting the child's hair, whats next? Definitely the teacher should have gotten some type of suspension and go to some type of management program, to deal with her issues. Breath in ...and out...10 times. Crazy...!

I totally agree. I won't lie, I can see how the girl playing in her hair can get annoying. The way she flings them around is very noisy and probably distracting, but there are other ways of handling things. Whatever happened to warnings, time-outs, and if she still doesn't listen sending her to the principle's office? Don't cut off the poor child's hair. Kids do annoying things. As a teacher she should learn how to deal with it. I wonder if she ever took the time to REASON with the child and explain to her why the way she plays with her hair is so distracting. I would even go so far as to bring one or two of the kids that sit around her with me as i spoke with her and ask them if the way she plays with her hair distracts them. Making the fact that she's been disturbing everyone more realistic might have helped her to stop her habit. But resorting to chopping off one of her braids is definitely wrong and crossing the line.

We would have been fighting..like seriously.. On the bright side... good thing it was the the braid at the very front.

oh see, it would take the Lord Himself to restrain me! And I am a former teacher, so there is no excuse!

Jesus take the wheel cuz I bought get hood up in here LOL
I can't even pronounce the words .................let just say I spent way tooo much money to grow my chil's hair and that is all. oh lord the island jus came outta me

The neighborhood and other parents at the school need to get together, hell we should get together and write letters to the school/school board (if they gave the name on the news - can't see the vid at work). If they get enough letters in they'll have to get rid of the teacher, especially if the letters are made public by the news as well.

That is the most offensive and disgusting thing to do!

I understand that teachers have a hard job and sometimes can become frustrated in dealing with pupils but what she did was mutilation.

She intentionally humiliated and embarassed that little girl and needs to be charged with assault using a weapon.

I know it sounds extreme but imagine someone coming at your head with scissors when you're a poor defenseless child!

Terrible!

That mother is GOOD, they would've been doing my interview from behind the jail bars.

That teacher had the AUDACITY to cut off someone else' chile hair?!? I would have calmly rolled up to that school with a brand new pair of scissors ret' ta go and chopped off the whole front half of her hair and see how cute she feels.

She betta thank her lucky STARS she aint try this wit a LHCF member, if she had??!?!?!........wooo chile!!

That baby's hair is LONG too:nono: I dunno about the mothers hair but that baby's hair is well taken care of and nice probably takes her alot of effort and time to get her baby's hair done and looking nice not to mention get some length.

I just dont know whats going on these days. On the real though, I would have calmed down from my initial instincts and decided just how much I'm suing for, after they done traumatized my baby like that. She needs to be fired, what the heck are you working with little children for if you don't know how to address annoying behavior?

I had this happen to me in elementary school on the bus. That is one of the worst feelings that I ever had.

As fare as how I would react if it where my child just start taking up a collection for my bail cause I'm catching a case. Sorry ladies for my babies I can't take the high road.

RIDICULOUS.

1) I would have called my attorney, put my child in therapy/counseling and started documenting the trauma the event caused my child.
2) I would have called the principal, come up to the school with a pair of scissors and told them that I should be allowed to stand the teacher in front of the class, and cut a portion of her hair from her head, throw it in the trash and then ask her "Now, what you gonna do and who you gonna tell?!"
3) I would tell the principal I needed to do this bc I was “frustrated.” If the principal wouldn't allow it, or told me that I would face assault/criminal charges if I did it, I would tell them to contact their attorney bc mine is already filing charges against her trifling arse AND the school board if she isn’t immediately terminated.

RIDICULOUS.

The teacher should have just sent the child to the principal’s office and said she was disrupting the class. The principal could have given the mom several options for minimizing/eliminating the disruption such as pulling the hair back into a ponytail or securing the beads so they don’t shake or make noise or wearing bead free styles until the child learns the self-control to not play with her hair loudly in class.

I mean if the girl had had on a pair of hard heeled shoes and was tapping her foot loudly, would the teacher have brought her to the front, took off her shoe, cut it up and threw it in the trash and sent her home barefoot? Come on. RIDICULOUS.

There was some hater-ation going on with that teacher and that child’s hair. TRUST.

this story upsets me. if i was the mother. who knows what i would have done! probably go down their with my snippers like.."time for your big chop"

My Stomach almost turned.

I can't believe it.

I mean... Where do we start with what all of this means???

1. Humiliating a child.
2. Humiliating a black child. Her self esteem and beauty ROCKED by the eurocentric ideal.
3. Presumtions that the teacher made about the child's hair.
4. If the child was WHITE - this would have NEVER happened... and if it had... It would have been on CNN.

NOW... what would I have done????

I would have beat that teacher's a##.

NO DOUBT. And I would sue the district. This is the kind of stuff attorneys need to be working on.

Happened to you, by whom teacher or a student? I know kids do this to other kids, but a TEACHER, wow.:nono:

My thoughts exactly. I mean seriously, what if the little girl was playing her fingers. I guess she would have cut one of them off as well. Evidently the teacher has some mental issues and needs to be removed away from children.

I have several girls(and boys) in my class with braids. One in particular plays with her hair a lot. I remedied this problem by putting the braids in a ponytail after the second warning to stop playing with her hair. If she keeps it up I threaten to call her mom and that usually solves the problem.
If it were my child I am SURE that I would have cussed her out and at least slapped her triflin' tail.
