So I'm going to Ghana for a month in January and Im veryyyy excited :grin:The only thing is that I know Im not going to be able to keep up my regimen because we wont have weekly access to water and I wont have my hairdryer with me. Now Im due for a touchup, it's been about 8 weeks and I have significant new growth. I think I should just get braids or a sew-in so i dont have to worry about dealing with my hair. Although I havent decided on which style I want. However, my mom and stylist think I should get a relaxer first when i come home, then go get my protein treatment and wait a week or two and then get braided, so that when I come back I wont loose a lot of hair during the relaxer process. Now this makes me scratch my head, and i think its just my stylist not making sense again, the same way she thinks that the only people who can deep condition my hair properly is another stylist. Although thats a different topic.

But just so I'm not crazy (because my mom does have me thinking I'm crazy right now) I think I should just let my hair be nappy thru the holiday season, (despite my mom wincing at the idea of my hair being like that) and get braids or a sew-in before I go to Ghana and just rock it out for a few months after i get back and call it a day....although I am worried about blending my front hair with my sew-in if i decide to get that...

Also, did I mention that I wouldnt have access to hot working water all the time? I think braids would be more practical but I dont really like them on me and Ive only had a sew in twice and I wasn't really sure how to take care of it, because I always went to a salon, although back then I never really knew how to take care of my own hair either.

sorry for the crazy long post, I tend to ramble :look:

I say go for braids...and go for what you want to do with your hair for the winter holidays. Dont let anyone dictate to you what you do with your hair... only pisses you and your hair off.. either way nappy or relaxer is fine... if u do get the relaxer.. that way sounds fine ,just dont forget that serious deep condish after the protein... if u stay nappy there are so many things you can do to your hair...like captain planet says tho..THE CHOICE IS YOURS!!!!!!!! :look: showin ma age..

No point relaxing if you're just going to put braids in. I would braid it up then relax after coming back from Ghana. If the braider is rough with parting (like mine is) flat iron your hair before going in so it doesn't hurt to part your hair for the braids. It doesn't have to be full heat/bone straight. Just enough so they don't have problems parting your hair

I think the braids would be a good option since you said that you will not have regular access to running water. Maybe with braids it would be easier to clean your scalp with something (refreshing mix/dry shampoo). Just a thought...

I just went WAY BACK.

And I personally think that you should not get the relaxer, wear your hair out and about, get braids, and then relax when you return to the States. I think braids will be easier for you to manage, because you can just wash and DC them like you would to your own hair...keeping your hair healthy in a sew-in is more complicated. I bet your hairdresser just wants you to come in now for that extra paycheck..it is that time of the year. :look:
Anyway, good luck with whatever you do!

P.S. Staying nappy has its benefits...curly styles have ridiculous volume with a nice little TWA under them.

I wouldn't relax and I would get braids. If you get a sew in, get a full sew in and don't leave any hair out.

I would get braids without a relaxer most definately.. alot easier to keep up with especially since you said that you don't have too much experience with sew ins

I say the same thing! I actually hate my hair after a fresh relaxer because of how flat it is, and I love it once I get some newgrowth because it looks so full :)

Although I must admit the more I thought about a sew-in, the more excited i got. I looked at the sew in thread and thats what I was doing when I had my sew-in the first time and it worked out fine, but my hairdresser was intent on me coming in regularly...I think I was just tricked again :wallbash:...But i was thinking I could get a big loose wavy style with either brandy's pro-10 hair or get some human hair that has a wave to it, and blend it in like that. My natural hair isn't very coarse, and when i was natural when i was younger, i used to be able to brush it pretty straight, so with a flat iron I should be able to be okay

I guess I just dont want to get braids and have them in for a month and if I get a sew-in I know I'll keep it in for at least 3, and that'll be a good protective style in my opinion.

So what

You can get tree braids or crochet braids if you don't like the look of extensions on you. Make sure to take pics of whatever you decide to do and of your trip

crochet braids

tree braids

both videos are kind of long so you might want to skip like 2 min into them... i get bored fast so i dont like to listen to the beginnings, of course i tend to miss out on vital info doing that... so, yeah. watch away lol
