Anyone else noticed "natural" weave as a fad lately?

I was down in Atlantic City and out and about in Philly and a whole lot of girls were sporting wavy/"natural" weaves or ponytails. The thing that got me was that they were staring at me all crazie with my REAL natural puff.

The thing that really gets me about this "trend" is how every time I see women sporting this look the hair is all frizzy and they look unkempt. They don't keep it up and it makes me feel like other ppl judge my natural hair because of how these women represent/misrepresent the natural hair community.

You ain't never lied about that statement!!!!

I am trying to decide on my natural weave now but that's because I am transitioning. The front runners are attached.

These photos are bad because they both look like braidouts that have been brushed and combed which is wavy kinky and matched the top portion of my hair texture perfectly. I am also in love with this Velvet Remy look but I don't really have curls/coils in the front plus in my google search I can't seem to pull up anything resembling the photo of Adaoba2012's sister.

I know people that I went to school with are now natural, rocking the natural look or are wearing TWAs. Now mind you when I was in high school a few years back none of them were natural and use to make fun of me and constantly would ask me when I was going to relax. Now they have curly weaves and are rocking there on hair. I guess it's the "in" thing now. Also, celebrities have made it acceptable.

I'm also in a medium sized college town outside of STL and I've seen an influx of nappy weaves. Iunno how many times I've seen a chick from afar, drooled over her hair, debated about complimenting her, and then realized it's a weave when she gets closer.

I remember 1 time I was watching a Badu music video with my friend and he is an anti-weave/wigs anti relaxer type a guy

Yes, I'm in the StL area too - and I've noticed all these very long Kinky/wavy, thick weaves. I'm glad someone finally posted about it because I was contemplating a post! I have seen an abundance of women with this weave; post some pics someone!

I don't think it should be looked at as a bad thing. My sister and I get sew-ins all the time. I have never had a curly/kinky weave but she has and her reason for it was just that she wanted a bit of a change..I loved her hair too.

It's been like that for a minute and I don't understand. I have a friend that has naturally curly hair (it's gorgeous), but gets relaxers. Then gets a curly weave?? Last time she went to the salon (for her relaxer) her stylist even told her she should go natural? Perhaps it's because her edges are gone (another stylist does her weaves).

I'm guessing y'all are either in the Northern section of the country, or in college, cuz round here, it's still 5.5 pounds of that good bone straight remy yaki on folks heads.

I've seen a couple of 'wavy' weaves (like Foxy/Lil Kim wears) - but nothing even vaguely kinky looking.

That's how I see it. It's not a BAD thing at all, imo. As one of you said, as long as it's not unkempt, I'm cool, lol. I just don't UNDERSTAND it, lol. That's like me staying natural...but straightening my hair every single day without fail.Oh well, whatever floats your boat.

They're so bad I never get to evaluate the wig itself. My eyes won't get pass the hairline.

I wish I could tell you...my sister doesn't even know. She went into the BSS trying to get some straight hair but they sold her on the kinky wet and wavy..it was her first time using textured hair.

When I was a teenager I used to do that. My mom would get on me all the time about that. I didn't care I still wore them.

There wasnt an abundance of this weave hair a few years ago. Now it more available and it's in various textures. There are also more african american vendors. I think we always wanted more natural hair textures. I never was really fond of hair that was too silky and some yaki hair is like straw. So now we have a choice and ladies are taking advantage of that.

Bushy/curly/wavy weaves have been popular here for the last 3 or 4 years. A lot of people buy like the synthetic hair with the small curls in it and then pluck/brush it out so it'll look like a fro. I'd rather see them than that long straight china doll hair all over the place. Sadly people don't realize that they could grow their own instead of buying afro kinky weave. I'm just saying.

I went to work a few weeks ago and say someone who is relaxed wearing the biggest puff I ever laid eyes upon. It wasn't incredibly kinky, it was just so huge. I was in shock because I always just see ladies with the curly (but not kinky) weaves and ponies. Hers wasn't swining and moving like their either.

I have noticed more natural looking weaves - kinky curly, kinky afro, kinky straight and relaxed texture.

I think its nice because its more realistic and usually there are no major blending issues.

Also, well taken care of weaves can be a great protective style as evidenced by many ladies on here.

It is 1000x better than the shiny barbie doll synthetic type of weave hair

I was JUST in the store earlier 2day and a girl had it *her's looked a whole hell of a lot better then the ones I've seen the past few months* and I blame LHCF for me even noticing because since lurking on this site for so long I have some weird hair radar.*beep beep beep weave...beep beep beep beep wig...beep beep real hair "ooo niiiiice"* but I see it more with high school aged girls around here. *DC Metro area* The problem is often these girls take a good thing and go overboard.

At they end of the day they all look about the same. Its like they are going to the SAME stylist.

I definitely have seen an increase in more natural weaves/ wigs/ pieces being worn. They hate yet they want to imitate and I will leave it there.

what's more disturbing to me is I see a lot of young girls with these pieces in their hair, natural looking 3b-4b/c/d whatever letter you want to call it hair with damaged hair or perms (mostly damaged). I always think about the psychological effects of what that does to a child.

I have to chime in again on this one. I have been noting the AA ladies on the TV Ads are becoming increasinly natural and I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!! Im not natural but it makes me feel soooo good to see that yall. I Hope it continues until most AA are natural. Thanks ladies for the inspiration.

My mother noticed this awhile back and pionted it out to me. Her take was a bit different. She wondered why 99% of women (hyperbole folks, not literally) shown in commercials are shown as natural when it's more like 80% who are not in real life? She thinks they're just trying to find the most unquestionable exaple of blackness where people don't have issues of racial ambiguity. IOW they choose model these so you know she's not a mixed chick and they are certain of reaching their audience. I find it all interesting.

I doubt most AA will ever be natural (even in the late 60s and 70s this didn't happen) simply because most people in America have the very easy means and desires for changing what they got to what they ain't got.

I KNOW!!! I love it. It's not because I'm a natural nazi or something, but I just think they're gorgeous like that. It's very edgy too, lol.

I'm Relaxed and I used to get Natural textured weaves All the time. I would get them done every summer and rock the curly look for the entire season. I don't think there is anything wrong with it. I love my relaxed hair and prob won't ever go natural...and I wasn't trying to 'fake' being natural by wearing the weave. I just liked the texture of the curly weave. And this look is so not new...I remember girls getting afro weaves since grade school...I just don't get why some folks have something to say about a relaxed person getting a natural-textured/curly weave when NO ONE says anything about the natural girls who get that straight silky Remy hair....It really shouldn't make a difference cause weave is weave...bottom line is its fake hair. just speaking my mind....
