Maybe you walked away before Ashton could pop out and say "You've been punked" because this situation is all kinds of wrong.

I'll never understand where people get the nerve to touch and/or say such things to a stranger. You handled it well though. Couldn't be me :nono:

omg i dont even know where to begin!!!! that is just plain ignorance...im so disgusted......and i am in love with my natural hair and can't wait till it looks like an "uncombed mess" lol

Girl I swear you need to change your demographic location...seems like every week you have some kind of horror story.

As others have stated you handled this well. Hold your head high and know that you are blessed and a wonderful, incredible, beautiful woman of color and no one or no situation can take that from you.

I have come to the realization that as long as we have people with a mindset (old, or young and of any culture, race or creed) that only non natural hair is beautiful we will continue to see this or hear about it.

There are some that will go into their grave with this thinking and others who will see that as long as you want your hair natural and you are okay with it then they are okay with it.

Jesus would have had to take the wheel from me.

I would have cussed out the Black woman & told her how dare she call me a nappy headed *** and in front of a white person no less. I ain't gotta do nothing but stay black and die, so she can GTFOH with telling me I need to relax my hair.

THEN, I would have snatched that white lady's hand and told her, "Don't you ever in your mayonnaise & cheese sandwich eating life touch my hair." And if she said it's dirty anyway, I would have told her "Well ****, if I'm in the haircare aisle looking for shampoo, then obviously I'm washing it if that's any business of yours. Besides you smell like you need to wash your damn mouth."

[SIGH]
Girl, you have some self-control. Do you meditate?

:lachen::lachen::lachen::lachen::lachen::lachen::lachen::lachen: AT ALL OF THAT!

Well I was in Wal Mart picking up a t-shirt and this black lady came over and asked me was I natural I said yes. She begain with she was tired of us young folks trying to be something we are not. I kinda stared and smiled. She went on with all yall nappy headed children walking around trying to go back to the sixties and the flower child movement. I said no mam I just decieded I wanted my natural hair and I did not want to perm anymore. So she was getting loud and I was trying to not make the it any worse than it was.

Well a white lady came and started touching my hair well by now I was like what the frekin frak is going own. I grabed her arm and said please do not do that. She looks and says well its dirty anyway. Before I could say anything the black woman says you people are a disgrace to the mother land. By now I am upset and asked her how? She said walkin round got people thinking we just some nappy headed hoes with ur uncombed mess.

We are proud people and we keep ourselves up. That why that man died that Marley guy disgrace what you young fols will do to a race of strong proud epole. My children keep they hair combed and cleaned and pressed like folds is suppose to do. I said mam I am proud of who I am and what my people stood and fought for. I am sorry that you feel that your hair in its orginal state is not worthy of the love and attention you give your relaxed hair. I don't blame you for all of the hatred that you have within yourself I blame a system that you have not takent the time to get to know which is a generation that is very proud of whom and where we come from. But I will say this and leave I thank you for your struggles becuase if it was not for the struggles of those before me I would not be able to be the kween that I am today. When I walked away I told her kwaheri which means good bye in Swahilli. She just stood there with the white woman just shaking her head.
Can U bleive that.

 WTF?!?!?! I am so proud you were even able to form a response cuz I'm sur I would have been just standing there with my mouth agape in disbelief. What the haaayell?! Where to start, there is so much wrongness in that story, I don't even know what to start. What the . . .

First of all, you didn't ask her opinion about your hair. It's one thing to have an opinion, it's another to give it when nobody asked her, or was talking to her. You handled her right and very classy. But, to tell you the truth, I would have just walked away in the middle of her sentences. That bologna needs no attention.:lachen:You shouldn't have to defend how black you are, or how natural is great, or any of that! I would have left that lady, and white lady right where they were, and continued my merry way.:yep: Your psyche needs none of that!

I would stood there with my mouth open and eventually walked away. But then I would think of a response and hunt her butt down and tell her off. Im not usually confrontational but some stuff puts me over the edge.

I pray that I, too, will have tact and class when answering someone's rude comments about my hair.

... but I'm somewhat mean. I would have called her "mkundo" which is Swahilli for something else!!! hahahahahaha

Ummm...she definitely ran into the right one, because had she ran into me I might have taken off my pearls and...we you know...walked right past her.

walking away laughing at mayonnaise and cheese sandwich eating self...

Wow, that really happened? :perplexed
This is the year 2008 right...huh? :look:

I am asking that also, I mean how is this white woman just gonna come up and put her hands in your hair, and then proceed to say it is Dirty anyway? I don't understand that. & then the Sista went all Ig'nut like that because you are Natural? Huh! I know people make Ig'nut *** comments, But I am still trippin over the white lady saying your hair is dirty anyway:perplexed I just don't understand, then the sista, she calls you a Nappy Headed Whore! WHAT! I mean is it that Serious? This is too far fetched!

All these threads popping up with Negativity to Natural Hair!!!

Too funny!:lachen::lachen::lachen::lachen::lachen:

I can't believe she would get loud & trip about something that aint her business but to also call you a nappy headed ***... Kween, you handled yourself so well...somebody else might have gone to jail :yep:!

OMG! I can't even beleive this!
How can she beleive what she said to you. If anything, wearing our natural hair is embracing where we come from and who we are.

Dirty and unkept can refer to anyone who is not taking care of themselves and hair, not just naturals.

It sounds like her and the white lady were ganging up on you. I don't know what I would have done in this situation. Sounds like you handled it well.

ETA- The lady also sounds as if she has deep self hatred. Otherwise, why would she take it upon herself to approach you with all that nonsense.

She was obviously PERFORMING for Missy.

I am in such shock. I really can't believe that happened to you. I just can't believe it. :nono:

They were just two IGNORANT, RUDE old women and they should be VERY ashamed of themselves. You should have called the police on the old white lady for BATTERY because she has no right to touch you! My GOD!

I see it all around me-- people who are afraid of natural hair. Even a natural girl I know only wears her hair in braids because she thinks any other style (like a fro that isn't rounder than a ball) looks "unkempt."

Thank you for posting this story because we all need to be reminded that our mission is to grow beautiful hair and give a POSITIVE example for all the growing girls out there facing such a cruel society!!

Me:

"Excuse me sister woman", does your friend know that your hair looks just like this when she does not put a harsh chemical on her hair" to try and make it look like yours?"
To white L. " So if this is how you think of me and my hair and your friend and her real hair...if I were this B. lady, I would not have anything to do with you. You hate the black don't you?" You are a hater. " and walk away not bothering to wait for an answer.

HOLY S***!

wow....

yea..... umm....i don't think i woulda handled myself so well. Kudos to you. The nerve of her. So you're shaming black people by NOT embracing your natural God given hair? wow.......

I am in awe at what some of you ladies relay on this forum about the encounters you have with people out in public...I cannot even imagine someone coming up to me and being that ignorant and disrespectful. Your response was dignified, on-point and very impactful...

ITA with the above. I cannot believe the nerve...:nono:

I really need to believe you were being punked and will update when it airs. That they were doing a study in human tolerance/non-violence. That's it's April 1 not the 28th. That they were shooting an indie and had to make cuts in the budget! :nono:

Forgive them....I pray that mindset fades even more till it's non-existent. If for no other reasons than selfish ones. My daughters love their natural hair. I don't want anyone attempting to destroy that love.

This sounds like a bad dream...

I don't know what I would have done if a total stranger disrespected me like that.

You must be a really good person because they would have been calling the cops on me!

Well, first of all, the black woman feels insecure and is just trying to push her insecurities on you. Do not let this eat away at you because she's the onle with the problem...NOT YOU!!!

I've had people try that "hands in hair" mess with me. This is a violation of your space no matter what the body part! I don't know what to say about that one. Curiousity is one thing, but the comment...well, I would have ignored. But as far as violating my space, I would have to set her straight.

Now, granted I've "asked" first before touching someone's hair last year because it was so beautiful, long, and silky and we were talking about hair...not bashing.
