Hello Ladies! Welcome to the vinyl glove challenge/experiment.

I have been using vinyl gloves for the past few weeks while detangling and finger combing. I noticed less breakage and loved the way my fingers would glide through my 4abc hair.

Some of the advantages some of the ladies have pointed out are their manicures last longer. Snags on nails don't rip out hair and products don't get lodged under fingernails.

This challenge will last 30 days starting officially June 9, 2012.

There will only be 2 rules.

The first is to use vinyl disposable gloves. Latex and rubber are grippy and break down with oils. Nitrile are very expensive and not quite as slippy. There are some specialty gloves that stylists use that are reusable and have slip.

The second rule is to please share your experience. Let us know how you used the gloves and what for. Give your opinion. You can use the gloves just for finger combing, detangling, applying products, grooming or styling.

Thanks Ladies for participating. I have had great results. I need every little bit of help I can get and I hope you benefit as well.

HanaKuroi,

I like the idea of the challenge. These are just my thoughts.

I think 30 days is a good time frame. But perhaps you can give the option of 30 to 60 days.

I know I can finger detangle and finger comb with the clothes. After that though I'm not sure. I really need to feel my hair when I'm applying product and styling. I think it is worth a try but I'm just not sure.

I don't know if the gloves will save my hair but I know they will save my nails. My hair slices right through my nails. I am cowashing tomorrow and will be trying it then.

I will check the brand but I think I just bought what was at my grocery store this last time. They are vinyl no powder and remove easily. Do not get latex. I also blow in the palm as I am adjusting them.

Love Always I have bought them at different stores. They are disposable. You can buy them where the diabetic supplies are. If you buy them where the kitchen gloves are you will only get a dozen instead a whole box for only a couple of dollars more.

This is genius....I stopped finger detangling because I couldn't get it done thoroughly because I constantly have hang nails and polish snagging my hair. I'm in!! I'll be using gloves for everything I do and I believe this would help a lot with the small amount of breakage I have.

I'm in when i saw your post in the other thread i went out and bought vinyl goves today at walgreens...as an FYI ladies check your walgreens!...because mine had a box of vinyl gloves on sale for $4 (for a box of 80) :)

I wear acrylics so my real nails are "chippy" and they always snag my hair...Thats why i knew i would try the glove Idea :yep:

I am thinking a 30 experiment/challenge. We can decide if we want to use gloves just for detangling, applying stylers, conditioners or grooming purposes.

We could post our experiences as we go.

If this is something that seems to be working we could try an all out challenge that would not be longer than 60 days maybe?

We will only use vinyl gloves. No nitrile, no latex, no rubber gloves.

We can decide how and when we use the gloves, please just let us know what method you pick and your experience.

When should we start? Is this upcoming Monday too soon?

I will start tomorrow, and update when the official thread is ready, unless this is the thread :look:

I am going to try using the gloves through my entire wash cycle through finger combing my conditioner in. I will take the gloves off when i start to style.

I am not sure if I can tell if I have enough conditioner on my hair with the gloves but I will give it a try to see.

I'll start an official thread tomorrow. I have never done a challenge thread before. Can you tell? Lol.

No I couldn't tell. You don't even have to do a new thread if you don't want to. You can just edit your 1st post in this thread and add details. The title already has the word challenge which will alert people. It's totally up to you.

This is a pretty good idea. Since I use alot of oils, my manicure doesn't last nearly as long. Sooooo I'm game. We're on the same page lol. I have been polishing my nails and oil is DEATH on a manicure.

UPDATE!!!!!

OMG!!!......I forgot to tell you ladies...I used the Vinyl gloves today when i deep conditioned (i forgot to use them when i applied the conditioner, but i used them to rinse it out) and no kidding because of my chippy nails i usually snag at least 5-10 times during washing, and today i only got 1 snag!!!...That's right 1 Snag!!!!:trampolin....I'm offically a vinyl-ista now!!..... That should be the name of us girls who participate in the challenge...:lachen:

I've been using Black Pearl Professional, reusable latex salon gloves. I bought them at Sally's because it said they'll glide thru your hair. And they really do. I started using them for henna/indigo but found that cowashing, conditioning and detangling with them is great! I haven't had any problems with my gloves breaking down.

So far I am failing with this challenge. I did use vinyl gloves tonight to apply my conditioner and to finger detangle. I ended up using the glove only on the right hand because I couldn't tell if I had enough product on. When I got in the shower, I detangled with both gloves. That worked ok. I didn't notice more slip. I took off the gloves to rinse and my hair felt drier than usual. I am not sure if it was the gloves or that I tried to cowash as a prepoo.

I tried to use one glove to finger comb but I really needed to feel my hair.

So I will use the gloves to finger detangle and see if I can improve that process. I don't know if it was better. I couldn't feel my hair and not sure I can feel the tangles. But its my first time so will try it again on Friday.

Tonight was henna night. I use snug fitting gloves. I think it makes it easier to feel and manipulate. I will rinse out with gloves on of course but I will have them on to detangle and braid to stretch it out in the morning.

I completely forgot to do this. I was in the shower at the end of my cowash before I remembered. :nono: I will do better on Sunday.

I didn't use my gloves today. I had
More sheds/pulled out hair when doing the tcm fir the first time. My fingers didn't glide through. I kept thinking it was my conditioner. It wasn't. I put on my gloves to finish applying product and I can see the difference.

I ran out of my small gloves and I had to use one size fit all. What a failure. I could not manage or feel. I felt like my hands were in garnage bags.
I ran all over town looking for vinyl gloves without powder in a size small. I found some at Walgreens. I am going to check Sallys tomorrow.
