That's messed up! But it looks like she left it on for way longer than 10 minutes, I bet you $5 she left it til it burned, some folks still have that mentality that it ain't straight until it burn. Plus she is not mad enough for me, I would have been livid and in tears.

I completely agree. I'd be lying if I said I didn't think relaxers can be dangerous. I had some issues with a so-called "professionally applied" relaxer (Mizani) at the salon.

The more knowledge I gain about hair care, the harder it is to justify the risk.

I guess I was trying to say that maybe she shouldn't blame the company, specifically.

Yea... I was with you.... Most of the time the companies win... Because one is using those chems at their own risk. I never ever did this on my own... I was too scared.

Not that the stylist did not JACK my hair up...lol :lachen:

I agree with all of you ladies... but - sometimes we have to think about how poverty affects Black women... we are so blessed to have laptops, internet, and access to money and great stuff.... She may not have.... I dunno...I think other relaxers are 5 bucks right??? I have NO idea since I RUN from that stuff.....

No matter... it is tragic.....:ohwell::ohwell::nono::nono:

I understand what you're saying but what's wrong with Dark & Lovely or some of the other brands? You can get those anywhere and they are known brands/companies. Maybe Sheenique was on sale? :ohwell:

Yep, Glam - I did not know the price of relaxers.. someone else told me that most of them are pretty inexpensive...:yep:

I used to use whatever no-name relaxer (back when I used chemicals). I didn't really know there was a difference, and I try to save money when possible. I'm sorry this happened to her... and I'm glad I'll never use chemicals again. If my hair fell out I think I would go straight insane after all this work I put into it.

i hear ya, i wouldnt know how to be :spinning::spinning::spinning::spinning::spinning: ever see how a cat reacts when somebody cut off its whiskers?? that would be me.

Yeah those little box kits are under $10. I buy Affirm for my mom and it's like $12. It's just one application of the relaxer by itself though. So even a professional relaxer isn't that far off in price.
