Is that overkill? My hair is just an inch past ear and I'm wearing wigs daily. Is it too much on my hair to co-wash Tuesday-Thursday, pre-poo with oils on friday, then wash on Sunday?

Are you allowing your hair to air-dry before putting on the wig? Are you braiding, twisting, manipulating your hair in any way after the wash? If so, then I would have to say that it is a bit of an overkill. I used to co-wash everyday when my hair was shorter and loved it, however I wasn't doing anything else to it (think wash and go).

Thanks for responding.

I'm only allowing my hair to air dry, spraying leave in conditioner for moisture then sealing with oil. Only combing when wet with a detangling comb, applying a little BT and then sleeping in satin cap after it has dried.

I'm no hair expert. I just knows what works for my hair. I'm braided up right now, but before I was in braids. I would co-wash everyday to every other day and pre-poo with EVOO. It was convenient because I was wearing wash n go's. :yep:

I miss my wash n go....

Why are you washing every day if you're covering up with wigs? It is because of sweat? Dirty?

How are your wearing your hair under the wig? Is it loose, braided, etc.?

I'm just curious why the daily washing when its being covered up. I would thing wearing wigs would be time to leave hair alone and give it a break from daily manipulation . . .

I tried the co-washing everday jig after reading a regimen from one of my inspirations. It didn't work for me. In fact, if anything, I had to keep putting more moisturizing products on my hair b/c all that washing was actually drying my hair out. Needless to say, I wash 2x a week now and my hair likes that better.

I co-wash every other day when I'm wearing a wash n go. My hair doesn't react well to co-washing everyday. It get dry and brittle.

Why co-wash every day if you wearing a wig everyday?

This is why I asked the question. I've been reading up on reggies and some folks really praise co-washing everyday or every other day. I thought that maybe I was missing out on something that could boost the condition of my hair. It's quite inconvienient for me but I didn't retain much growth over the past 4 months and co-washing was the only thing missing from my reggie that made it different from other success stories. Just looking for some help.

I didn't read through the whole thread some one may have already said this:
Yes! I think it is! Hair retains length with minimal manipulation (tongue twister:drunk:) I rinse my hair (with my natural hair in braids) once every 3 weeks no shampoo no conditioner. After 3-4 weeks I will take out the braids and wash with poo and co. Under more frequent cicumstances I might co wash every 2 weeks.
When I had a perm I used to wash it once every week and deep condition.
But never every day! I think washing it too much is way too much manipulation.

You could try it out for a little while. If it works for you then I dont think its overkill. I co wash just about everyday and my hair does better than when i dont do it. You have to go by what works for you.

I co-washed my hair everyday for two years and it thrived. I used shampoo only when necessary because shampoo dries out my hair. But I don't wear wigs. I don't cowash daily anymore because of time issues, but I may return to it in the future.

Cichelle, how did u manage CO everyday in the winter?

Actually, wet hair in the winter does not bother me. But if it was particularly cold, I'd cowash in the evenings so that it would be dry by morning. Sometimes I wore a hat if my hair was still damp, usually not though.

I think one of the big benefits of co-washing is the moisture it provides for your hair. But if you are wearing a wig you probably don't need to co-wash everyday. I think cowashing everyday works when you are working out and stuff like that.

And the reason people see extra growth could also be from the scalp stimulation.

I think you'll get a lot of yays & nays from ppl. But it all comes down to your hair type, HOW you're washing, what products you're using, & what u do to your hair afterward.

I saw the fastest growth when i co-washed everyday but then I was working out everyday too so there was that.

There are weeks when I cowash everyday. I really think it helps my hair. The moisture makes my hair looks really great especially when I do my bantu knot-outs and braid-outs. I haven't noticed any adverse reactions from my hair to it and I've been doing that for about 3 months now.
