Do u ever feel awkward shopping in the non-enthic aisle at the grocery store?

When I'm shopping for shampoo and conditioner in the grocery store sometimes I get this weird look from other ethnicity groups. They look at me as if they we're saying "What are you doing in this aisle. This is not you aisle." Sometimes I get a stink look. (Maybe it is, because I'm wearing a sew-in, but I keep my hair well kept underneath)

Has this ever happen to you?
 
Uh...no. That's never happened to me. I also always do a quick browse in the "ethnic" aisle (they have good gels sometimes), and end up giving 95% of the ingredients lists the lip curl.
 
I'm not gonna lie, I do. I feel the most awkward when black people see me shopping in the other other aisle. I feel like they are judging me lol.
 
LOL I don't feel awkward but I DID get the side eye (while wearing my fro) for picking up my beloved HECMH and HELTR by a family of rednecks. :look:
 
TBH, it's not something I've ever noticed. I just go about my business and buy whatever products I want.
 
Not that Ive noticed :shrugs: hey I'm there to spend my good money just like errbody else.. who cares what they think :yup:
 
No... I don't. I didn't realize product segregation was that serious. I mean... Yes, there are products marketed specifically for black hair... but that doesn't mean all other products are only marketed to non-blacks. Maybe feeling self-concious in that isle causes people to sense perceptions and judgements that may not actually occur.

You could be thinking "Yes, lady. I'm here & I'm black!!". Meanwhile the woman standing there is thinking "As soon as she moves out of the way, I can grab that Garnier Fructis conditioner on the shelf in front of her." :lol:
 
I have no problem at all (I now only want the best for my hair). Glad I discovered this forum, because I used to think that the ethic aisle was the place I was SUPPOSE to shop for healthy hair. Boy was I wrong!

No. I don't notice any looks at all. Then again, I live in NYC and it's way too fast paced around here for anyone to really care.
 
Nope, but when I had just BCd and I was visitng my sister in Fl I had a bottle of HE Totally twisted condish at the check out and the casheir asked me "does that work for you" ........................... I said "why wuddnt it?"

truth is I didnt know if it would have, but why she asking me that ?!?!?!
 
NO, you should see my in the Indian grocery store!

Trying to despiser the non - English labels on some of the hair/beauty products! :lachen::lachen::lachen:

I go where my hair tell me to go.....
 
I get the looks but.. that stuff smells goooooood. And after I pass them I know they get a wiff :)
 
nope. I feel awkward in the ethnic aisle though because 75% of the crap over there is for relaxed hair and the rest is pretty much garbage.

OMG YES!!! I had no idea. :nono: My SO brought home a snack mix and it was delicious but it was sooooooooooooooooo hot!!!
 
I never understood the ethnic hair care aisle. It is geared toward Black women (& men), but doesn't everyone have ethnicity??? Why is ethnic associated w/just Black people? LoL
 
You know, i actually never feel that way. But i have jokenly(is that a word?) say that to a friend sometimes...

But when i do feel awkward, its because when i go to the grocery store i usually go in the hair product aisle(ethnic products make up maybe 1/8th of that aisle btw) andddddd i walk up & down the aisle about 3 times, Pick up one or two products & put them back down, Go back & look, Then leave:lachen:

I mean Who does that?? ....I, do..:look:
 
Funny you should mention this, me and housemate share a bathroom and our hair drawers look totally different. i.e. she has the pink moisturizer and the ampro, while I have jane carter and nexxus. lol But no i don't feel awkward at all. I let my hair show the benefits of what I buy whether its ethnic or not. (and most of it is not :lol:)
 
me me me lol...I live in san antonio tx and it is soooo little black folks here...I get all kinds of looks and all i do is look back lol.

It def feels awkward

Texas... They treat certain people down here differently then others when it come to customer services. Other then that it not super racist and people get a long. It just some people give weird looks when you a super nice store.
