Hi everyone Im new to this board as a member but i have been taking everything in and using it, but recently I have experienced very hard dry hair here is what i'm using:

cowash- vo5 strwbr and crme
DC- NTM
leave-in- cantu shea butter

what can I do to infuse moisture back into my hair?:ohwell:

hopefully you will get some help..I am new here as well; but have received little..I just try to read, but it's so overwhelming....

Could you elaborate on your regimen?

How often do you wash your hair and deep condition? How do you style? Do you ever use shampoo? Do you use any oils?

One thing I can tell you is that the information is all here around you. Other people can help you a lot!... but it's a lot of trial and error and research on your part too.

No one can magically pull the perfect regimen for you out of a hat, but we can help you along the way :)

Try doing searches on deep conditioning and moisturizing also :yep:

If you need any help with anything, you can also pm me if you feel too overwhelmed!

Thank u for your advice,
Neith

Sounds like a good, basic regimen. It's a good start! Are you relaxed or natural?

It may be too much heat. I'm assuming since you use heat, then you don't moisturize often so you don't ruin the style?

The heat plus not moisturizing enough may be your problem. Maybe you can look into other ways to style your hair besides heat sometimes. Rollersets, braid outs/twist outs, protective styles (braids, buns, ponytails)

Also... what do you do to get rid of build up?

Sounds like it could be product build up as well. If you're co-washing often and then adding DC'ing as well, and not at least washing with shampoo or clarifying at some point in your cycle, you could be asking for trouble.

If I were you I'd clarify, follow up with the DC, moisturize and seal with a good oil. You should also maybe lay off of flat ironing for a while until your hair's moisture level is back on point (direct heat can further dry out your hair). Maybe try rollersetting and saran wrapping instead for that straight look you want to acquire.

:welcome2:

Hi Brasileira, I'm sorry I can't give you any hair advice, because i'm new here too. Just wanted to welcome you in and to say that, there is a lot of information here that can be very helpful to you.

Hiya

I'm new too, but you'll soon find your way around. There are some fabulous, informative threads on here; all the ladies are very very helpful. :)

Just to add, deep conditioning imo is really key, once you consistently start including this in your regimen you will notice a change in your hair.

Most people use a clarifying shampoo to get rid of build up. They are shampoos with powerful cleansing agents that strip build up from products and any other dirt/crud that normal shampoos may not be strong enough to remove.

They can be pretty harsh on the hair though... they are not really good to use very often. The average person clarifies about once per month. It's important to clarify or remove build up if you don't usually use shampoo.

I personally use ORS creamy aloe shampoo to clarify. It also is a chelating shampoo (it removes hard water minerals).

I find that it's more gentle than many other clarifying/chelating shampoos.

Some people also clarify with baking soda (mixed with shampoo or conditioner). I have done this successfully as well.

You can try searching for clarifying shampoos for more recommendations.

Whenever you do clarify, make sure you DEEP CONDITION right after to get the moisture level up in your hair.

well have you tried other conditioners?

I know vo5 dried the heck outta my hair. There was a thread about that too. A few other ladies said the same.

I use tresemme and i LOVE it for how moisturized my hair is.

can you possibly cowash twice a week instead of once and see how that goes?.

Are you using a good heat protectant when you flat iron?

& Like foxie said clarifying is a good idea too. I do that about once a month since i use alot of product.

you can get rid of buildup with a clarifying shampoo or a baking soda rinse, i like panteen purity but there are others i know nexus makes one and i think ORS one

the reason i dont cowash more than once a week is because i flat-iron only once a week
I havent really found a natural style that will stay the way i want it so therefore everytime i wet my hair i like to flat-iron it. so to reduce damage i do all my wash duties once a week so that i can flat-iron once a week

well if you only wet your hair once a week, you definitely need to moisturize it. First you need a heat protectant for flat ironing. What moisturizer do you use? I would suggest using moisturizer at night, so it doesnt ruin your hair style

Welcome to the board. Hard water may be the cause of your dryness. If you do live in an area that contains hard water your best bet is a water softner.

You might want to try leaving out the Cantu butter. I know some naturals have no problem with it, but that stuff made my had very dry, and hard to the touch. You could try a moisturizing gel for moisture, after you do the clarifying.

ok i think i will stop using the cantu
also i do use a heat protectant - redken heat glide
moisteurizer-ors olive oil
how do i find out if i have hard water?

The VO5 Strawberries and Cream moisture milk was not good for my hair. It litterally left my head hurting almost to the point of tears. I also had a burning feeling in the top parts of my head from it. I was scared I would wake up the next day and find my hair had fell out. I had used other products after my co-wash, so I wasn't certian if it was the VO5. So, I used it again a few days later, with the same pproblems.

I loved the VO5 Vanilla Mint Tea. I had no problems with it. My hair loved it.I also started using the Tresemme and it has been doing good.

:reddancer:Welcome!!!! I know you will find alot of usuful tips from these ladies. Beware it can become an addiction!:lachen:

Hey and welcome:grin:

try not to worry. It will take awhile to solidify your regimen.

I'm afraid i cant chime in much, Co washing did nothing for my hair. I had to DC weekly to see increased moisture in my hair.

thank u guys so much for your advice
what kind of tresseme are u ladies using?

Tresseme vitamin E moisture rich is a very good conditioner :yep:

I co wash with suave/V05 with no problems, but other good conditioners to try imo are:

Natures Gate conditioners - light, oil free, don't build up, but very moisturizing. They are cheap and come in big 18 oz bottles.

Aubrey Organics GPB, Island Naturals or Honeysuckle Rose - intensely moisturizing. The GPB conditioner gives a nice balance of light protein and moisture.

Giovanni Smooth as Silk Conditioner - really leaves your hair silky :yep:

I'm sorry you feel that you have received little help but you have to help yourself first by knowing what is wrong with your hair. Is it dry, breaking or has no bounce? Then you do a search on what ails your hair. Also the stickies are a good starting point for all newbies.

I too am a newbie and this site has helped me a lot just by reading what interests me. I haven't had to ask for help because my answers are here in front of me. Yes, it can be overwhelming at times but you have to read the threads to find out what works for your hair.

I would advice you to do a search before asking a question that has been raised a few times. Hope that helps. Happy hair growing, girl. You will be alright.
