I am sure this occurs, but I guess it was very strange for me to actually see it, but I was on a friend of a friend's facebook page looking at pictures and saw this old college classmate. She has identical twin girls who look to be about 2 years old.
There were quite a few pictures of them and in every one of them, they had their hair in a high ponytail. One of the little girls hair was more like a huge ponytail puff and the other little girl's hair looked to be slicked back and in a high thin ponytail; both heads of hair were really beautiful. The first thought that came to my mind was "why in the heck would she put a relaxer in that child's hair?!?!?!?!?!". Then I saw a picture of the little girls with their hair down. The one that I thought had a relaxer??? Well she has huge shiny curly locks of hair and when it's pulled back, it looks very straight. I was shocked because I just didn't realize that although they are identical, their hair types could be very different.
(I have never seen the mom's natural hair but I saw a pic of the paternal grandmother's hair and she is natural; it's much like the curly locks of the little one so I guess that gene was passed down to her)
I know that was probably a stupid observation, but I was sooo glad when I realized that she hadn't put a relaxer in the baby's hair! Now the nosy part of me often wonders if she or other people show favoritism to the child with the looser texture hair and if it will causes problems for her in her future.
