My flatiron is not getting my hair straight anymore. What may have happened?

Hi ladies. After the last 3 or 4 shampoos, everytime I use my flat-iron, my hair just will not straighten. It will do SLIGHTLY better if I turn up the heat, but I don't want to do that. :nono:

I am using it at the same temperature that I always have. What gives!!??

Can you guys tell me if you have ever heard of something like this?

I was thinking that ONCE AGAIN :ohwell: , I have gotten overmoisturized. The last time I did use Aphogee hard-core, but I did not let it get hard that much. It was good right after that, but my hair was DRYYY. I don't think I want to deal with that again and I am going to use lighter proteins. That treatment was about 4 weeks ago.

But, overmoisturization is the only thing I can think of that has caused this issue. At this point I feel like it is pointless to apply heat at all if it is not going to work. Well, I can't really say that - I do get it straighter with less frizz than just leaving it airdried, but with all of this humidity, you can imagine what it looks like after a few days. :look:

I am mostly texlaxed, BTW. My ends are bone straight.

I use Kenra Clarifying with every wash. I only do one lather, though, before I do one lather with a moisturizing shampoo.

Maybe my leavein is doing it. But I have been using the same combo for over 6 months now. (Fermodyl 619 and Qhemet's Sidr Tree Butter Balm).

I like to think that the better condition my hair is in, the more resistant it is to techniques/chemicals/etc that try to alter its natural state. This was the result after your hardcore aphogee treatment? I think your hair is probably getting stronger. I experienced this last time I flat ironed. I used to be able to get excellent results at 300F. I now have to use it at @350 or else I will be frizz city:perplexed

humm,, i dont have a perm and i have a diff texture from you but i have had a similar problem! first off are u 100% sure ur iron is working properly????, if yes it might be that the hair is too soft. I have this issue when the humidity is high,, r u in a humid environment? IT is so frustrating !!!! my hair will straighten but look frizzy and be oversoft and puffy and shapeless ,, maybe its a summer thing

Ravenhairbellydancer "frizzy and be oversoft and puffy and shapeless" - that is exactly what I have been getting. Maybe it is the summer doing it.

schipperchow1, frizz city is right! Sometimes it makes me think I need a trim and I don't want to get scissor happy on it.

sunbasque, I have 2 that I use. I have a pink Solia and a FHI 207-RVI. Both are 1" and fairly new. I was using the Solia mostly - I just started using that one a few months ago. The last time I decided to try my FHI to see if it would be better and it was. I have had that one for about 6 months. The FHI is doing a better job right now.

Also, Ravenhairbellydancer , I have VERY texturized hair. It is not relaxed straight so that is why we see a similar problem.

yeah, sounds like the humidity... maybe you can try rollersetting and see if your hair reacts differently, and use a setting lotion that will give you a firm set...?

I wish I could do them myself. :(
I have a salon appointment this weekend and she said she is going to rollerset me. I hope that helps.

I did a light protein lastnight and it seemed to do a little better, though.

HoneyD, honestly, I think your hair is getting stronger so it takes more to break it down to get straight (which is DEF. a good thing). Either you can roll with it and leave it 'not as straight' or turn up the heat a notch.

Well, yesterday I thought of mrsjohnson75's suggestion about clarifying.

I use Kenra clarifying with every wash, but I only do one lather, which is not much lather at all for that Kenra. It needs 2-3 uses to get a really good lather. I think 1 is fine for me since I use it 2 times a week, but this time I thought I would really get it sudsy. I did 2 lathers and then used my moisturizing shampoo.

Then I used Nexxus Babassu mudd under heat for 15 min, then a Mane N tail deep moisturizing condition w/o heat for about an hour.

My hair airdried and I flatironed - and guess what? It was straight.

So either the deep clarifying did it or the mud treatment.

edited to add:

but it is still soft, though :)
