I'm giving them a try for 6 months ( unless my hair tells me otherwise) to see what it does.

I've ordered some oil, a leave in and a DC from Lakshmi's Cupboard and now I'm eying some things from Afroveda ( not directly from her though...thanks for the warnings ladies), and from

This is my regimen and recommendations in a nutshell. Overall Ayurvedic products are inexpensive and easy to incorporate in my regimen.

Heads Up - Traditional Ayurvedic oils typically have an earthy, grassy or smoky (like JBCO) scent due to the herbs.

What does all of this do for your hair? Obviously something or you wouldn't do it ;)
 
My hair is low porosity, coarse, kinky (4B, like Marley hair); with high shrinkage and prone to forming locs. Both hair and scalp are dry. I always had to use a harsh shampoo or soap first, then heat all my conditioners and stylers to get them to penetrate. My scalp was always itchy and dry. Now with Ayurvedic products and clay, my hair still shrinks, but rarely tangles. It is also darker and has sheen. Shed hairs slide out. I no longer have to do 50-leven things to moisturize my hair. My scalp is always clear. I can moisturize/seal once and leave it alone until next wash.
A few years ago I had to stop using Ayurvedic products for a year for medical treatment. i lost some hair and my tangling and scalp issues slowly returned during that time.

These are some benefits of the most commonly used Ayurvedic herbs
  • Amla fruit/Indian Gooseberry - high levels of Vitamin C and anti-oxidants, penetrates hair and scalp (conditions), stimulates collagen production, prevents gray hair, darkens existing hair color, removes iron & copper deposits from hard water; treats scalp conditions (dandruff, seborrheic dermatitis, eczema, psoriasis)

Thank you for this post! What is your regimen? I'm low porosity 4a/4b, and my hair frequently tries to lock in the back middle.

The night before wash day (Thursday or Friday) I apply Ayurvedic oil to my scalp and hair (prepoo)*. Then I prepare my Ayurvedic rinse and steep overnight. The ratio is 2:1 conditioning/strengthening blend in a moisturizing tea base.
For example this is Nupur 9 Henna + Majabringraj powders in Hibiscus & Rose petal tea base:

I also reserve some of the tea base for a leave in.

The following morning I rinse with very warm water and massage my scalp to remove most of the oil. Then cleanse, towel blot, & apply Ayurvedic tea. Next with the tea still in my hair, apply conditioner (usually a mix of different ones + 1- 2Tbs of oil). DC with heat for 20-30 minutes, rinse then towel blot. Finally I apply the reserved tea base and style.

Now I'm more tempted to try this but I'm also still my lazy self lol. Do you know if anybody is using the Nupur 9 henna which is supposed to be already premixed with 9 ayurvedic herbs? I mean I could just buy this and add it to the oil and allow it to infuse ;)

Now I'm more tempted to try this but I'm also still my lazy self lol. Do you know if anybody is using the Nupur 9 henna which is supposed to be already premixed with 9 ayurvedic herbs? I mean I could just buy this and add it to the oil and allow it to infuse ;)

YW! That is what I do! A few other ladies at the thread do, too.
 
Got my Mahabringraj, amla, and aloe powder. I also have my napur.
Ready to start using them in glosses. I think I'll start doing glosses bimonthly, then a full henna when I see how my hair adjusts after maybe 3 gloss treatments.

I'll continue reading the threads about them until then.

I picked up x2 more Ayurvedic Oils to do Winter HOTS. Decided the only "powder" I'll use right now will be Cassia.

I need to do more research on the powders.:bookworm2:

I'll definitely purchase any Pre-Mix. I have Bask & Bloom Brahmi, Hairveda and some Ayurvedic DC'er from APB.

I bought some Kalpi Tone and some other powders yesterday. I can't wait to really get to my ayurveda hair care like I need to just to see how well it works on my hair. looks like I won't be really starting it until all the powders that I ordered, arrive. I ordered quite a few.
