I get those comments a lot here in the South (Memphis, TN) but they never touch me. :nono: My hair isn't nearly as long as your either...!!! Go figure. Next time, please try not to go Northern on them. We love you and want to keep you here with us. :lachen::yep::lachen::yep:

Girl, don't worry. It is not the length, it's the health of that hair! It's beautiful. It used to happen to me when I had a chin-length bob! (the track-check--too funny!) Take it as a compliment, and if they think you're frontin', all the better! I have to admit, I've been guilty of thinking someone's hair is a weave, only because it is so much more well-maintained and healthy looking than most.

Everytime I pass you siggy I'm like Ugh... she makes me sick... LoL. Your hair is beautiful, take the disbelief as a compliment. But everything else was straight UNnecessary. That was just pure hatred and ugliness.

You and your hair are BEAUTIFUL!!!!

Your hair looks like YOUR hair to me. Really pretty and healthy, too, I might add .

Honestly, too many women (esp. black women) tend to be jealous and lash out at another because that's the best reaction they can come up with.

Ignore it. They're just really insecure and self hating. And unfortunately, they're going to keep attempting to do these types of things to you.

Putting her hand in your head was a definite no-no. But take it as a compliment. A nice silky braidout can looka lika weave! LOL! :) Too bad they cant tell a weave from real hair though, I usually can.

Your hair looked fabulous!

Imo, too many of us are still caught up in believing that we cannot grow hair. Sometimes, it's understandable given that they may not have long hair and see others around them with short hair too. However, that still does not excuse rude behaviour and bytchiness. It is just not acceptable.

at first glance, i thought you were ediese showing off another one of her fabulous weaves, so i understand where they were coming from. BUT that's no excuse for them talking to you like that and running their hands through your head. your hair is beautiful girl, forget them.

I almost never use this excuse but this time I feel pretty comfortable saying that the answer to all your questions can be summed up in one word: envy.

I read a whole article about jealousy vs. envy in Psychology Today over the weekend (they arent the same thing btw)

Envy is when you want what someone else has while Jealousy is the fear that what you have is being threatened/impeded on by someone else.

Those women want your hair....not all women...but the ones you spoke of in your anecdote clearly have bought into the hype that black hair doesnt have the capacity to grow and that length = white.

If I was you I would have been an a-hole, sashayed my self to the bathroom, made a part straight down the middle of my head and walked out with two pigtails (showing there are no tracks) and watched those broads gag with indignance. :lachen:

ok maybe I wouldnt have done that  but thinking about it tickled me a bit.

At the end of the day those chicks are more to be pittied than scorned. I feel your pain cause I've actually been followed to the hair aisle at CVS by women with bad wigs as they try and figure out if my hair is all mine. It's no coincidence that the folks who are the most upset by healthy, long hair are those who dont have it.

Next time you see someone reaching for your scalp look them dead in the face, raise a pefectly arched brow, and be like "uh uh. i dont like anyone but my man touching my hair."

works like a charm...and also lets them know you arent one to be messed with. :yep:

Indeed!!!!

The time that they wasted hating on your hair could've been used to gain insight into healthy hair practices, products, etc.

I'm sorry that happened to you. But honestly......can you share your braidout techniques. That is REALLY pretty!
Last friday was also my 30th birthday, how about that!

Some females ( and I am not offended cuz sometimes the truth hurts) especially the ones in our race need a MAJOR attitude adjustment!

:yep:
ya the bad attitude won't get them anywhere

I just came back to say, what is wrong with black people? I mean how is it that we really truly believe that are hair actually doesn't grow. I'm not talking about getting long, I'm talking about the fact that the majority of us are convinced that hair does not grow out of our scalps.

Are we just dumb? I can see how people don't understand about retention. But how does it even make sense that black people are the only humans whose hair doesn't actually grow?

ya it's so sad, that doesn't make sense at all.

kami I'm surprised at their behavior with you.
I know black people are mega ignorant when it comes to hair but I thought at least every black person knew an anomaly, a full black girl with super long real hair. So they have to know it's possible, just not common.
But Kami, you were super classy by ignoring them. They were not worth your time, I don't think I could have done that. And your braidout looked gorgeous. :lick:
How did their hair look?
Please tell us how busted up their hair looked!!

Your hair looks gorgeous. You handled the situation very well, some chicks are so ignorant it's not even woth the bother!!

Your hair is gorgeous! I don't get that a lot from strangers, I mainly notice them looking and talking. I actually get a lot of that from my family. Believe it or not, they are the ones that are open about their thoughts. Living in the Silicon Valley a lot of people have the idea that they aren't going to put you on a pedastool and 9 times out of 10 just wont say anything until you turn your head.

But to be in your situation would be very frustrating because you don't want to act a fool but will if pushed. And the chick rubbing your scalp woulda pulled back a nub becuase that is pushing the line. I just think it's that ingnorant thinking that keeps some biatches with short hair. Their just to silly to realize that our hair grows.

I would like to say thank you A MILLION TIMES FOR THIS !!!!! I am constantly saying this to people, when I talk hair. We are human. Aren't we ? So obviously our hair can grow or we wouldn't have what we have on our head in the first place. COMPLETE IDIOCRACY!!! It gets me so angry sometimes. I have been saying time and time again that most black people have a prob with retention. Thats why they are like : why does it look my hair is always the same length ? Because the hair you grow every month is pulled out or broken off when you do whatever nonsense you be doing to your hair. Thats why it looks the same if not shorter or thinner. UGH!!! It also gets me angry when I see hair products catered to black people sloganed for hair that doesn't grow. To me the main reason other races believe this is because we believe this and we tell them as such. I have heard black people say this to other races, my hair doesn't grow like yours.. blah blah blah ... RIDICULOUS ! sry for the vent

You looked great this weekend and your hair is soo pretty its sure to insight jealousy... Just smile knowing you naturally possess what people pay for and WISH they had!

Absolutely beautiful hair! Seriously, how did you achieve this look?

Thanks! I DC on dry hair then co-washed w/ V05 moisture milk air dried about 85% hanging loose used Nexxus Humectress as a leave in, sealed w/ EVOO and cornrolled the sides and plaited 4 braids in the back then rolled w/satin rollers for the next day. I loved this look cuz the more humid it got the bigger my hair got which I loved.

Are you serious? I can't believe that...I mean I can but it is almost unbelieveable.

I've had people turn around and look at me but nothing where they actually told me that it wasn't my hair. I mean, I guess my hair still looks "black" or whatever. But still, I don't care if your hair looks 1a as a poster commented that it looked like Indian remy or what not, a person should just leave it at that if you say it's your hair.

That was ridiculous!:ohwell:

Fortunately, I have yet to have someone "weave check" me, and I hope it NEVER happens. I'm sorry you were the target of such poor behavior.

With that said, you and your hair are gorgeous!

Actually the girls on saturday w/ my former classmate hair was banging, all 3 of them had it going on. One of them had long jet black mbl hair, at first glance I thought it was real and was going to compliment her but when she said her comment I figured it was probably a weave. The girl Friday who messaged my damn scalp she had a very cute bob.
