I'll check them the next time I flat iron.. I did a s&d in November.. I think I have some splits but my ends feel fine

My ends look good, but they are thinner at the bottom then the rest. It is not really noticeable to most people unless I point it out and have them examine it lol, but it is definitely noticeable to me. (I think it is also a lot more noticeable when wet).

The majority of my ends are in pretty good shape. My bangs...not so much. I had to trim them the other day from chin length to the top of my lip. I don't know why they give me so many problems. I hardly ever use heat and I baby them to death...

My ends are probably pretty bad. I haven't trimmed, except to cut some knots in over a year. I haven't straightened in almost a year either. I'm going to rollerset around Christmas to assess the damage.

I probably need a trim but they are better than they were a year ago. On the right side the ends look thin but I have a lot of new growth so that may be a reason, or else I might just need to trim again.

I got a blunt cut at the end of July...my ends (see siggy pic) are starting to appear thin. I think this is because some of my strands are growing faster than others....so i'm just going to wait for the rest to catch up. I really don't want to trim until I meet my goal length which is full waist length.

my ends are a bit bad...but i won't be trimming coz i just hate anything sharp near my hair...

when i eventually get to booty length, i'll cut it down to wl, then the ends will be nice, even and healthy...

until then i can deal with these rags :D

I wouldn't suggest holding on to bad ends:nono:. I did that for many years and my hair never grew one inch longer. It's only when I started trimming and dusting it that it grew (retained) length. IMO....bad ends are a real set back for growth.

My ends are in great shape, in spite of the fact that I don't trim regularly. I almost never see a split or knot on my ends.

I believe the reasons are that I don't use direct heat, cover my hair every night, practice low manipulation and gentle handling, moisturize my hair/ends regularly and air-dry a lot.

ITA, splits can travel all the way up your length and break off...I think it's okay to Not to trim if your hair is uneven (and healthy), but split ends can lead to a major setback.

My ends look and feel good now because I got a haircut Monday. I have horrible ends usually and I don't know why.

I think my ends are alright. I check them often for split ends and damage. If I had uneven or see-through ends, I wouldn't hesitate to chop them off.

My ends are really healthy right now because I had them trimmed earlier this month. I don't mind getting a trim or dusting whenever needed and I already know that I will probably have to go back for another trim come February and I'm ok with that. :yep:

I have discovered that I can't go longer than about four months without trimming. I don't like holding on to bad ends.

probably...but but but my hair's growing :look:

its grown from near-baldness (less than an inch) to very near APL since i started growing two years ago and i've never had a trim

ok, so i get it, split ends are bad...but can i leave them just one more year? :ohwell:

I have my hair in extensions now and when I take a look at an individual braid and examine the fuzzies sticking out...splits galore. I have some serious tree branches on some strands. I would have to do a major hair cut, not trim to get rid of all my bad ends.

ive neglected my ends all of this year. so i will be cutting about 3-4 inches. be back by summer hopefully.

I haven't treated my ends well this past summer/fall. My last trim was the end of August and I don't plan on getting another one done until the end of January. I plan to baggie ant HYH through the winter to keep them moisturized.

My ends are ok, but that's for three reasons: 1)I BKT and quit using relaxers, 2) I S&D to get rid of splits and scraggly ends, and 3)I keep my manipulation and product usage to a minimum. My hair is growing out healthy and strong, and I am very happy!

My ends look pretty good. I trim every 6 months and its been going well. I also seal them every night with jbco or a butter and its been helping alot.

healthy ends= retention. when you you do not give yourself *needed* trims, your otherwise healthy strands begin to form knots and snag on one another. that's when you start to notice more strands on the floor.

key word bolded is *needed* because it varies person to person...for some people who use healthier hair practices, or just have stronger strands this can mean 1x a year or less..

for me...i have a thick mane, but fine strands. when i trim about every 12-16 weeks I retain at least 6" a year:) I love to see a gorgeous head of hair from root to tip!

ETA: I'm 6 weeks post-trim (week of Halloween) ...so I'm okay...trying to push until mid-Jan. then I will get a weave install:)

My ends are doing okay. I do have some single strands knots, but they're not causing any problems. I'll trim when I need to. I prefer to just get it done and have some nice looking ends than hold onto hair that doesn't look good.

In my 3rd siggy pic (Nov) they still look jacked, but waaaay better than before (I think they was in Almaz and BMP's gang, lol). Since then, I've narrowly averted a huge potential hair mishap: ssk's! Even though I'm relaxed, transitioning to texlaxed! I guess I wasn't leaving it on long enough to even make a dent (abt 5-7 min). So, I tried rollersetting, which turned out okay, but it was still tangly and wrong. I couldn't style, I couldn't even get to my scalp.

Mind you, I've been texlaxing since August, so I have 5 months of new growth. I was really on the edge of just going back to bone-straight.:nono: I didn't. I just texlaxed longer, but not that long. We did it last night, so I really don't know how it turned out yet (dried in ponytails and flexis).

I had already planned to straighten and trim at the end of the year, so I'll update my siggy then. I've never self-dusted/trimmed before, though I used to s&d in hs bio, lol. I've been looking for techniques, but they all seem like they're for way longer hair. So... I guess I'll practice with a wig. Wish me luck, y'all! :lachen:

No idea what my ends really look like cos i have not straigtened my hair for years so they're always really curly.

But since I moved from moisturising once a day to twice a day i get a lot less knots and tangles at the ends.

I don't think they'd look bad though, I reckon I look after my hair alright

I totally get what you are saying....with bad ends your hair will still grow to a certain point (mine was about bsl) but then it will stall out so if you're looking for super long length you will most likely have to get serious about those ends. I say this often on the board because i wish i had someone to tell me this back then. You can hold onto them for a year yeah, you might get some growth but it won't be your full growth potental...not by a long shot. Best of luck!

Well, a couple of weeks I triimed maybe 3 inches so my ends are ok, not great but okay. They were terribly dry and split.. I could stand another 3 or 4 inches off but Im not ready.... That would put me maybe at apl or so, im not sure..

When it's time for a trim--I usually have a reluctant feeling. Right after it's done, I'm always instantly happy I did trim. I LOVE freshly cut ends! I just wish I could get over that initial bad feeling about it. haha

ETA: My ends are healthy. Like I said, though I start out reluctant, I do still go through with trims when it's needed.

RAGGGEEDDDYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY..:look: My first goal was to not trim them until feb when I do an official flat iron job, until then my intentions were to nurse them as much as possible so she wont have to trim half my friggin hair off.. however..the way these things are looking..

The truth? I need a serious trim followed by a no heat for a year or so experiment which I suspect would prove my hair is opposed to heat styling.

IRL? I'll keep dusting periodically and see how long I can go without using heat.

OK, so after reading all the other replies and following the depressing act of looking at my busted ends one more time, I woman'd up and cut about half an inch off the end of each of my mini plaits. I don't care that it'll be uneven cause I very rarely wear my hair straight. So now, the challenge is to keep my ends healthy in the new year.
