Does any natural feel less attractive when hair is un-straightened?

I feel like its two different looks all together , natural vs straight and YES I feel totally different with both, not to say I feel less attractive , just very toned down with a pony tail all the time. I cant wear my hair loose and natural-so that doesnt apply to me really. and YES its like VAVOOM when I press and wear it down/out. Huge difference

I feel more confident and attractive wearing my hair curly. I don't like my hair straight anymore, it's not me, and I feel less attractive because I feel on me it just looks like "blah".

For me its more of a length issue. I feel more confident with long hair...it doesn't matter if it's straight or curly.

Imagine my surprise to come in the thread and discover that I wasn't alone on the whole 'length' thing.
I'm confident and feel attractive, either way.
I could be straightened or natural, I don't care. So long as my hair is LONG. This is the reason why I haven't done a BC...and don't plan on it neither.
I have a pretty good amount of natural hair but I won't cut until I'm SL unstretched.
I've been short and layered---but short natural hair is something different entirely. I don't know that I could pull it off. Besides, my head is too big to rock a mini fro. (lol)

Anywho--I like versatility but I prefer my natural hair to anything else.

I like my hair either way, but i feel so much 'messier' with my hair natural, like someone outside is gonna throw a comb at me, and tell me i need to get up on my game and comb that nest. Even though its moisturized and fairly healthy, i think IM the only one that can tell that, cuz u cant tell by looking at it. When my hair is straight i like the fact that i can see length, but i get bored with it quickly b/c its usually limp and i dont want to apply MORE heat to add a curl or style to it everyday. Still, its nice having a comb just glide through.......then again, after LHCF, its not so hard to comb my natural hair either. basically its a toss up. i like it both ways, but i mostly wear it natural (curly) so having it straight is a treat i guess.

Straight is too high maintanence. And I am uncomforable with the texture now that I have not had a full head of straight hair for close to 2 years now.

i agree. straight hair is way too high maintanence. i don't have to do much with my natural texture. i feel more free and not controlled by my hair. i like the natural beauty about my hair and how it makes me feel. i don't look like everyone else. i went to a club earlier this year and there were so many naturals there and everybody was just looking good, dancing, and having a good time. the atmosphere was different. it wasn't whole bunch of walking around and standing around if you get what i'm saying. but i look good in any type of hairstyle that i rock. i can pull a lot of different styles off.

For me it is the length that had me second guessing my hair choice. I just recently braided it up to give myself a break and some different looks.

My hair is fine and having a relaxer made me feel bald with thinning hair. Being natural gives me a lot of bounce and fullness that I didn't get when relaxed.

It depends what I'm wearing on my natural hair.
When a lady did my twists wet, they shrunk up a bit and were looking soooooo cute. bouncing everywhere, made me look really mature. I got compliments on them quite a bit. I swear this bus driver I was having a conversation with was gonna flirt with me too. He was like "I'm surprised when you pulled out that student pass. You look over 18". I was haveing good hair + outfit day.

The braids I usually do make me look really young. I had a guy tell me one day that I should wear my hair straight because I look like a freshman. (I'm a senior.) I do get the freshman-soph-junior comment a lot. But I wear the braids because they're less maintenance for me. I keep them in 2 weeks but wash them while they're in once or twice a week.

When I last wore my hair straight, all the way back in june, I got a ton of attention. And I was feeling it... Let that wind blow, my hair went with it, felt kinda nice. Prolly cause I don't get to have my hair straight often. People touched it and commented on how soft it was perplexed didn't know why they were so amazed by that). I love the shock value of just wearing you hair straight when people never see it that way. The "Oh my God"'s are priceless. When I washed it out, the straightness got old real quick and I was ready for my hair back, one of my friends was like "Violettttt. Where'd the hot and sexy Violet go?" But, I still felt cute wearing whatever I was wearing after and kinda went "Oh I don't know. I think my hairstyle's cute today." He agreed but expressed preference for the straight hair..

Kinda long post. But I guess my point is, my hair, depending on the style (curly or straight) makes me feel either more mature and attractive or sometimes kinda childish but cute. I don't care much though, don't really rock the boat with my hair. I'm wearing what it takes to keep it healthy at the moment.

I totally agree. What led me to findind this board in the first place was when I had to BC my hair to ear-length after a bad texlaxing experiment. It was the first time I felt really self-conscious about my hair, so YES lelngth matters to me too.

I had relaxed hair for many years. I went natural 5 years ago.

I recently flat ironed my hair to try that and I felt older and less attractive. I didn't know what to do with my hair .

So, I feel more attractive and individual with my natural hair.

I love afro-textured hair. Textured hair is the most beautiful to me. Mine defies gravity and has its own character on its own.

I do think certain styles are more flattering to me, and yes, wearing my hair in an unflattering style would make me feel less attractive.
But as long as my hair is big and thick, with body and shine, it doesn't matter to me whether it's straightened or unstraightened.
Even when I flat-iron, I put curls right back into it, I don't like my hair just straight and hanging (like in siggy)...so boring...

i feel very blah with straight hair. my hair was straight for the past 2 weeks and i wore it in a bun everyday. i think i look like a drag queen with straight hair.

now i'm wearing a braid n curl and it's so big and fluffy. i love it! but what i don't love is feeling like i have to dress up when i wear my hair like this.

my absolute favorite way to wear my hair is in between. i love the kinky/straight blow out look.

It depends. My flat ironed hair is really silky, but very flyaway when left out. Plus I have a long face (which with straight hair isn't the greatest combo). But I can do bantu knot outs and braid outs on straight hair which look better on my straight hair imo.

However if its in a well behaved WnG, twistout, styled set of twists, or beautiful cornrows (depending on the style) then I can work with it. I did a bantu knot out with a banana clip at the side if I remember rightly for a birthday and it looked great.

I just like the variety of both.

I think straight hair is boring. I will not look twice at straightened hair, even if it was shimmering like a dang diamond or star. It does not pique my interest on me or anyone else. I love texture for it's versatility.

Just thought I would also mention that I have no deep underlying self hatred for myself or my culture. I love being who I am. I recognize that I have other great attributes besides being black, and sometimes the world takes that superficial characteristic at first glance and defines you solely based upon that fact. But of course I'm going on a tangent here. Let me bring things back full circle.....

I just can't seem to wrap my mind around these feelings I feel. Why am I not COMPLETELY comfortable with wearing my hair naturally kinky? I also don't understand why I find myself less attractive when my hair is unstraightened.

My, my, my have things changed. Sometime in late 2009 I became to love and embrace my natural hair more. I love it both kinky and straightened, because essentially I'm still me regardless of how I wear my hair!

I believe my big, bold, unique personality is further enhanced by my big, bold, uniquely textured hair. I feel fierce and sexy with my natural hair, more so than I ever did/do with straight hair (my own or my wigs).
